Nilofer Ashraff
Nilofer Ashraff is an aspiring writer, who started off writing for herself. She was also the Editor of prosaicMagazine an alternative art and culture magazine that initially started in 2005 with the aim of documenting Singaporean artists alongside international artists. The magazine produced 8 issues, mostly black and white, photocopied and silk screened publications and continues to develop through collaborations and exciting new works.
Through prosaicMagazine, she has interviewed writers, artists and bands. She has also contributed her own poetry to the publication as well as contributed book, film and event reviews.
Her main goal as a writer is to transform from writing purely for herself to writing with an audience in mind. This links with her desire to develop and grow towards becoming a spoken word performer. She has to date performed ‘The Girl with the Blue Balloon’ at The Arts house (Singapore) after attending a workshop titled ‘Poetry Masterclass: Finding a Fresh Perspective’ that was conducted by Jacob Sam-La Rose.
Nilofer was first inspired by the spoken word after attending a local open mic in Derby, England. She someday aims to return to that place and perform her own material.
She is also a trained primary school teacher and is working on using that experience to create poetry workshops.
This website contains samples of her writings.
