A WEEK IN DECEMBER

After reading two novels from Faulks that were written during war time, I was extremely excited when I got my hands on a book of his that wasn’t about war. Traditionally, as a reader, I shy away almost instantly from books that are war based. Therefore, parts of Faulks’ other books do not appeal to me because of my lack of interest in the nitty-gritty details of the process of war.. Having said that, I must say that the reason why I still read those novels was mainly because of the way he describes the thoughts and feelings of individual characters.
In ‘A Week In December’, I was able to enjoy this talent of his to great extent. This novel is great for a person like me who is interested to learn more about the different types of people that are in England. The novel also brings the reader on a journey to various places of London, making it a rich and interesting book geographically.
There are parts of the novel where Faulks does get technical once again. Not about war, but about the financial world. Detailed descriptions of how the financial world work did not stick with me. However, his portrayal of his characters in terms of their thoughts and emotions were all clearly described, making my experience of reading the book enjoyable and fruitful.
‘A Week In December’ was definitely a book that I could not stop reading and yet after reading it, I wished it had not ended.
