AMELIE

Having the courage to make one’s dreams become reality. That is what this movie is about. About Amelie, a girl who keeps by herself most of the time. She makes little changes to the lives of others around her, but what about her own life?

Is she going to live in her head for all of eternity or will she take the step in attaining true happiness?

There is something really special about French movies. The colours are brighter, the language is probably one of the most romantic languages of all time. The way French words just sound is simply amazing.

I love the beginning of this movie, how everything is rushed out and raw. How little details are explained and valued so much. It’s the little things in life that make life wonderful, and this movie clearly captures it. From the joys of finding an old memory box that holds hidden childhood memories to simple things like how one action in turn makes a whole lot of difference in a particular person’s life.

It’s all these small gestures. A random note to a random person might make that person the love of your life. It’s about Fate and how being in the right place at the right time, with the right person makes a whole lot of difference.

It’s about how no matter what, no matter how alone we were growing up, no matter how different we are from the rest of the world, no matter what, we’ll always, always, always, find that one person who fits.

It’s about all the little things couples take for granted cause it’s always there, like the simple touch of your lover. Or a simple kiss on the cheek or forehead. Or after so many years of dreaming of that one person, the person finally becomes real in the end.

The music that accompanies certain scenes leaves me speechless. Music plays a very important part in moments in movies. Without the perfect accompanying music, movies will be rather dull and lifeless. Amelie’s soundtrack fits in so perfectly with the movie. Simple tracks that ultimately have a lot of meaning behind them. Music that captures the dream like features of Amelie and Nino. Music that bridges the dreams and reality they have.

I have lost count of the number of times I have watched this movie over the years. But each time, at the end of it, I always tear, because I feel like at the end, no matter what we go through in life, this movie tells me that we will always, always have true happiness if we make the effort. It’s not something that will drop in our laps. It’s something that we have to work to attain. But once we attain it, everything else fades away, the pain, the struggle, the hardship, every single knock that we endured a long the way becomes worth it.

Love has to be fought for. Happiness has to be fought for. A girl like me, a dreamer, can get love, happiness if I fight for it – that is what I can take from this movie. It’s all about throwing yourself out there, living instead of hiding away and not fighting for what you believe in.

The last scene in the movie is perfect. Amelie and Nino on a bike riding off somewhere unknown, together smiling, sharing true happiness.

  1. Hey, I love your site. It seems most people don’t really bother writing articles that lack substance nowadays.
