THE LADY AND THE CHOCOLATE

Edward Monkton is a genius that uses very, very little words to make people smile and realise little things about life. He shows this so clearly in The LADY and the CHOCOLATE. He really captures the love/hate relationship that most women go through when they see chocolate. I love how chocolate makes me feel happy. I like how chocolate melts so wonderfully in my mouth but always, before I take that bite, I wonder, “How much is this going to effect my weight?”, “How much longer must I exercise in the gym tomorrow if I eat this piece of chocolate?” But eventually all these thoughts are lost once the chocolate touches my tongue.
Edward Monkton is not encouraging us to go and start eating chocolate now, but his simple words actually removes the guilt we sometimes think of whenever we go close to the chocolate section in a supermarket. In his words -The chocolate looked at the Lady with an expression of the utmost sorrow and a single TEAR fell to the floor, “Are you to deny me the REASON for my EXISTENCE?” Now when a chocolate talks like that, how can you not eat it right?
At the end of the story, the Lady is happy that she ate the Chocolate and fulfilled his purpose in life. She has no thoughts about her weight or how fat the Chocolate makes her. All she thinks about is how happy she feels.
