WALL-E

This is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over again and not get bored of. There are so many things that this movie brings about in my mind that now as I sit here and write this, I find it hard to focus all my thoughts but I’ll try.
First of all the love story between Wall-e and Eva is just too cute. The way they call each other by their names. So many couples now call each other pet names and not by their real names. It was refreshing to see them calling each other by their normal names, makes me feel like their individualism wasn’t lost, that they accepted each other for who they were instead of trying to turn them into something else.
Sometimes in life, the simplest things make the most impact. Like the ability to hold hands with the person, or in the case, the robot you love. To me, holding hands is one of the most special things a couple can do. A lot of the artwork I try to create, involves two people holding hands. If we look closely at the outline of couples when they are holding hands, we can see that somehow, the hands and their lower body forms a heart shape.
One thing fantastic about this movie is the songs chosen to accompany the scenes. Songs choice is so important in any movie, and the songs chosen for this movie is excellent. La Vie En Rose, just to name one is an excellent addition to the love story of Wall-e and Eva.
Apart from the obvious love story that can be seen, this movie is great because of its subtle messages. If we continue to use the planet the way we use it, throwing rubbish, pollution etc, soon Earth as we know it will be reduced to nothing but a garbage dump.
There are many people who take for granted globalisation, take for granted the things that are so readily available to them – be it food, fashion, shopping or normal leisure activities. There are people even now who take for granted the fact that we need to exercise to lead a healthy lifestyle. This movie is showing that if this way of life continues on, the way of not caring about knowledge, living – but just merely existing, human beings will just become a race of slobs who have nothing between their ears.
I like to think that people watching that – all the fat masses of people hanging around, finding it hard to even walk – will wake up and think, reflect and ponder about their own personal lives. I say this, because that is what this movie did for me. It made me think if I would ever end up like any one of those people. I hope that I do not. I hope that I’ll always be this person that I am now. Someone who does care for the Earth, knowledge and my own health.
