When Rachael sang this song live, she mentioned the story behind this song. It was written because she wanted to get it on with this guy who already had a girlfriend at that time. During this time, she herself had a boyfriend but she wanted to meet this guy for just one night. In the end though, she was happy that he didn’t show up.

When I first heard this song, all I could think of was how this song was perfect in describing the moment where a girl actually makes the decision to make love to someone that she loves for the first time. Every time I hear this song, that is all I think about. Meeting someone you love, telling him that you’re ready to move on to the next step/level in your relationship.

That’s why when I made a sensual/sexy mix tape for someone some time ago, I was really sure that this song would definitely make it to the track list even though the person receiving the mix tape would probably not like the way the song is – too slow or something like that.

Even if the reason why Rachael Yamagata wrote this song was not the same as the way the song makes me feel, it doesn’t matter because different people take different things from a song. It’s just like any story, any poem where the reader might take a different meaning compared to why the author/poet actually wrote it in the first place.

So since this song means something extra special to me, hearing her sing it live was something pretty amazing. Just her and her piano, it was so intense – made all the imagery in my head clearer; made this song mean even more to me.
