HEAR YOU ME by JIMMY EAT WORLD

This is the song I discovered randomly while I was running on a treadmill. What I had done was to download a bunch of Jimmy Eat World songs a long time ago. I put them in my Ipod, but never listened to them, basically these songs were just forgotten until that day at the gym when I felt like listening to things that I hadn’t listened to before. So I chose Jimmy Eat World – mainly because a friend and I were talking about this band randomly, and Jimmy Eat World was just stuck in my mind for a while. So I played their songs and ran.

A few songs from their Bleed America album played, and I really enjoyed listening to the songs. They inspired me to run. Then Hear You Me came up. I love how it starts off, with the slow strumming of the guitar, followed by the drums, there is something that just sucks you in and you just know even before the lyrics start that this song will end up being something really special.

And I wasn’t wrong.

There’s no one in town I know
You gave us some place to go.
I never said thank you for that.
I thought I might get one more chance.
What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I’ll never have a chance.

It got me thinking about how some people might not have the chance to really tell the people who mean something to them how much they truly mean to them. How sometimes we just let moments slip by us, how we sometimes take the people we love for granted, thinking that they will always be there to make amends, to say sorry or even a simple thank you.

We’re always thinking that we might have one more day, more moments, more time to make memories. But sometimes that’s not the case right? That’s why I have always promised myself, that no matter what, I’ll always let the people I love know just how much they mean to me.

After listening to this song, I just feel lucky that I have been doing that so far this year especially – letting the people I care about know that I care for them.

May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
So what would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I’ll never have a chance.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.

As I listened to this song repeatedly for the next few days, it started becoming the one song that goes on repeat over and over again. This song is about dying, death. This is the one song that I would want to be played during my funeral when I die. It’s perfect to capture a moment like that – to me if this song was playing it would be like I’m thanking every one for giving me a beautiful life before I go – like my last good bye.

And if you were with me tonight,
I’d sing to you just one more time.
A song for a heart so big,
god wouldn’t let it live.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.

I was browsing through youtube, trying to find a live version of this song sang by the band, but instead I found the video below. It’s a video of pictures from Penelope (the movie) with Hear You Me playing in the background. Now, that makes this song even more special to me. =)
