HOPPIPOLLA by SIGUR ROS

Whenever I listen Takk, I get goosebumps mainly because it reminds me of you and how much this band means to you, and now has come to mean to me. Hoppipolla wasn’t my favourite song off the album actually. In fact my favourite was Saeglopur but of course everything changed after i watched Penelope for the first time after meeting you. Whenever I listen to Hoppipolla now, I get goosebumps.

I can never listen to this song without thinking of you. I can never watch Penelope without you intertwined in it. It’s as if all these things are connected together, and that they can never ever be separated. Before I met you, this last kiss did mean a lot to me then – the way he moved towards her, the way he kissed her with such an urgency- this is what I thought a perfect kiss should be like. I thought the background music was great – but I never bothered to find out much about it, even though I had the soundtrack for this movie and that this song is in it.

I decided to watch this movie again after getting closer to you, just for fun, mainly because I had nothing to do that weekend and wanted to relive the feelings I get whenever I see this movie – feelings of love, strength, individualism, fighting for freedom and what a person believes in. Then came the last scene, the kiss, I teared as usual, but this time I felt something else. Felt like maybe fate was working, to tell me something, that there is a reason why Hoppipolla was being played during the kiss – mainly to tell me that maybe you and I are intertwined also, that somehow whatever is close to me, whatever I value, whatever I hold close to my heart, will have your influence in it.

I couldn’t sit still after I gained this insight. The song was there from the start, but I never really listened to it carefully till you. It was as if I was looking at the movie but never could feel it’s full impact until this song, Hoppipolla found its way to my heart.
